Google Ups the Ante of Social Search with Aardvark Acquisition

Monday, February 15th, 2010

Google has been announcing some landmark plans in terms of social search features in the recent months including the addition of the new Google Buzz feature in Gmail which allows users to start conversations via social media networks direct from their Gmail inbox.  More recently, Google has upped the social search ante one more time with the acquisition of Aardvark, a social media search startup which allows users to find answers to their questions by tapping into all of the social media networks for the best answer or at least for the best person to answer the question.

How will Google use Aardvark?  Only time will tell, but with the advent of Google Social Search, the new Gmail Buzz and now the acquisition of Aardvark—Google is definitely on a social media roll that is quickly gaining speed!

Aardvark claims that users can ask a question, any question, and the search engine will tap into your social media network to find the best person to answer your question.  Interestingly enough, you will receive answers from those within your own network so it looks like building those social networks will continue to be of large concern if you want to stay up to date with what’s happening, what’s on the minds of friends and followers in your network , and the latest in social search!

One thing is certain—the acquisition of Aardvark by Google will most definitely mean that Social Search is about to get very interesting for us all!  For SEO, it means that all those social media networks that we’ve worked so hard to build will soon pay off—and they will pay off big time!

It is useful to try everything in practice anyway and I like that here it’s always possible to find something new. :)
